CONTINENTAL PATISSIER OF THE YEAR CREATES HERITAGE-INSPIRED MENU TO ACCOMPANY 360° CAPITAL VIEWS
Abu Dhabi, 9th November 2015; The renowned French patissier who has baked for the weddings of pop and movie stars, super models and even royalty is taking his celebrated afternoon tea skills to whole new heights in Abu Dhabi.
For one afternoon only, on November 9, the award-winning, celebrity patissier, TV presenter and author Eric Lanlard will present a bespoke ‘Soir D’Orient’ Afternoon Tea at Le Royal Meridien’s Stratos – the UAE capital’s only revolving lounge bar and grill.
Working closely with the five-star hotel’s own award-winning Executive Chef and Food & Beverage Director Justin Galea, the inspirational culinary artiste has designed a stand-out menu that owes much to the heritage of the UAE and the region.
“I love Middle Eastern flavours and sweets and with this exclusive Afternoon Tea we intend to take guests on a magical food journey in the gorgeous surroundings of the Stratos lounge, where we our creations will be as inspiring as the beautiful views of Abu Dhabi city,” said Eric. “To establish the right atmosphere, and before guests settle into the gastronomic experience, we’ll ask them to close their eyes, take a deep breath and enjoy the subtle fragrance of a specially-created cardamom edible perfume which will transport them right into the middle of the Al Ain Spice Souk.”
The menu is a savoury and sweet tribute to Arabia with flavours of saffron, rose water, dates, cardamom, cumin, pistachios, bee pollen and caraway seeds informing the extensive Afternoon Tea creations.
“Guests can look forward to exquisite presentations of sandwiches, freshly baked scones, tea cakes, pastries and more that come with the breath taking creativity which has won Eric a huge, celebrity A-list following,” said Max Wiegerinck, General Manager, of Le Royal Meridien, Abu Dhabi. “This is a super exciting event for the hotel. All the staff have enjoyed working with Eric in the build-up to meet and sample the creativity of this extra-ordinary Frenchman who has transformed the genteel English tradition of Afternoon Tea into an increasingly popular culinary art.”
During the Afternoon Tea, which will see a selection of qualities teas served by the hotel’s highly trained tea sommeliers, Eric Lanlard will mingle with guests and offer his much-sought-after baking tips. The hotel is also creating a specially-designed menu for the occasion for guests to take home as a keepsake.
Justin Galea says guests are in for a truly memorable culinary experience which will please the eye as much as the palate.
“I don’t want to give all the details away because we honestly believe we have some terrific savouries and pastries which have simply never been done before and we want the element of surprise,” he said. “I can though say confidently that guests will relish a menu which is colourful, imaginative and which takes the Afternoon Tea concept here to a whole new level. This is an event made for Instagram. Memories will be made here, Afternoon Tea may never be the same again.”
Eric Lanlard’s ‘Soir D’Orient’ Afternoon Tea will be served from 3pm – 6pm on Monday, November 9 at a highly reasonable AED195++ per person.

Eric Lanlard, Master Pâtissier and twice winner of the prestigious Continental Pâtissier of the Year at the British Baking Awards, has earned himself an international reputation for superlative baked creations for an impressive A-list clientele.
